Job Description

Distributed Solutions, Inc. (DSI) is a fast-growing company, seeking a Technical Writer, with proven experience, for their Product Management Group responsible for working closely with DSI’s Customer Engagement and Product Development project teams in a dynamic and changing environment. The Technical Writer will join a DevOps team and work collaboratively with developers, quality engineers, product managers, and usability experts to make our products easier to use.

The selected candidate will be responsible for creating technical documentation, explaining complex information in a clear and concise manner. The candidate will have the ability to work independently and with business analysts and developers to ensure accuracy of document content. The ideal candidate will have experience writing Enterprise, System-level documentation including Administration Guides, Installation & Build Guides, Release Notes, and Online User Help. The ability to elicit and articulate application functionality and installation instructions concisely is also critical to success in this role.

Job Requirements:

  • Gather, analyze, translate, and compose technical information into clear, readable documentation to be used by technical and non-technical personnel. Documentation includes, but is not limited to:
    • Post-delivery software procedure manuals (user guides, system administrator guides, release notes)
    • Training materials
    • Web-based Help
    • Technical white papers
  • Implement consistent and compliant document content, design, and layout
  • Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers
  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Maintain glossary of terminology to be used in documentation, analyze documents to maintain continuity of style and content and manage timely updates and revisions to technical documents
  • Collaborate with other teams, customer representatives, executives or end users as need arises for development of technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication
  • Provide recommendations on improvements in the validation process, including document templates and communication with other teams
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills

Required Experience:

  • 3-5 years working as technical/proposal writer developing and maintaining technical documentation, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and images
  • Thorough understanding of English grammar and technical publishing best practices
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and deadlines
  • Deadline driven, especially with respect to internal/external customer delivery dates
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience with, or knowledge of, Federal acquisition and procurement process
  • Experience with Agile and SCRUM processes
  • Experience collaborating with cross functional teams spanning development, marketing, and sales
  • Experience creating and managing web based/multimedia content
  • Experience with MadCap Flare a plus
  • Experience with Adobe suite, Visio, and other graphics tools a plus.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project, Microsoft SharePoint, and/or web authoring tools
